Sorting and Sortation System or A Sortication is a method for physically recording the inventory, both in terms of volume and location. The physical recording is done by the machines while recording the information is done by the human operators through tabulation. This rotation method involves the use of various types of physical devices to achieve the sorting process. Usually a sorting machine is the most common type of equipment used to sort the inventory in warehouses. In this sortation system the machines are controlled electronically so that they can perform the task with just a single push of a button. There are two versions of this notation system.

The first one is known as Single System sortation systems. This kind of sortation systems uses electronic readers that are equipped with a touch screen to determine the product information that has to be recorded in the form of a barcode. These electronic devices can also sort the products that can be matched by their barcode locations. The second type of sortation systems is known as double system sortation systems that uses a second electronic reader to compare the product data of the first electronic reader.

The two sorts of sortation systems can be applied to different types of warehouse. For example, some warehouse sortation system can be installed to sort commodities and products that are shipped across regions. Another type of sortation system is used for large scale warehouse needs where huge amount of product data needs to be stored. There are also smaller-scale systems that are used for managing inventories in shops and departments.
